Starship visits Lord Howe Island, Australia October 2009

Starship is in Australia!

We are currently in Newcastle, Australia after a sudden end to the 2008 cruising season. While in Vanuatu Pam experienced a problem with the vision in her right eye, this eventually lead to emergency surgery in Sydney. Pam is now recovering with a healthy prognosis and is considering her options for continuing the voyage. Scott is working temporarily in the states, earning cruising kitty funds, and will continue the voyage early next year.

What's Next?

In November Scott will be sailing to Lord Howe Island, Australia as part of the Lord Howe Barbecue. Blind sailing friend and Australian sailor Tony Purkiss will be sailing with Scott in an effort to shakedown Starship after months at the dock.

Important Dates

On October 11th 2004 at 12:35 pm we cast off our lines and set sail for the Blind Circumnavigation!

On November 10, 2005, after sailing over 9,000 nautical miles we reached Whangarei, New Zealand becoming the first legally blind people to cross the Pacific Ocean! We are so excited about achieving this first major milestone of our circumnavigation!

On October 31, 2008 Scott returned Starship to Newcastle, Australia allowing Pam to continue the Blind Circumnavigation from a port at which the pair has independently sailed to together. The Blind Circumnavigation will continue after the 2008/2009 cyclone season!
