On October 11th 2004 at 12:35 pm Pamela Habek and Scott Duncan cast off our lines, put the Golden Gate Bridge astern, and set sail on the open ocean!
On November 10, 2005, after sailing over 9,000 nautical miles we reached Whangarei, New Zealand becoming the first legally blind people to cross the Pacific Ocean! We are so excited about achieving this major milestone on behalf of all visually impaired people throughout the world!
After this major accomplishment we continued to sail across the "Terrible Tasman Sea" to Australia, then on to New Caledonia, Vanuatu, and finally back to Australia
After an unforeseen medical situation in Vanuatu, Pam and Scott decided to suspend their circumnavigation attempt and enjoy the enormous accomplishment of being the first legally blind people to independently sail across the Pacific Ocean!
This decision neither marked the end of the team's sailing efforts nor future sailing endeavors. It is a glorious and enormous world out there, with many oceans yet to cross...
Read the many Blind Pacific Crossing journal entries from the first 17,000 miles of the voyage!
